No fewer than 24 operators worldwide have decided to create a common platform to enable their subscribers to download applications. Objective: To counter the App Store, Android Market or Marketplace.

The success of the iPhone and its App Store beginning to seriously irritate the operators believe their desperate alliance to counter the phenomenal success of Apple in the telecom sector. The operators have decided to respond together enjoying the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona to create a global alliance called Wholesale Applications Community, whose goal is to enable subscribers to download their term of services and applications from any terminal mobile multimedia.

Twenty-four operators, which represent three billion potential customers, participating in this initiative, including: Orange, Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, Verizon Wireless, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, NTT, or Sprint.
